Russel Bell's India Report
Jan. 24 to Mar. 6, 2006
Dear Supporters and Interested.
My 41st trip to India is now history. God continues to bless our work in a mighty way. Yes, this was one of my best trips. Mike Niehues was my partner again. I could not ask for a better preaching partner. He has worked with me these last 15 years on every January trip, taking his annual four-week vacation from his job to preach with me. Les Henkel also worked with us this year.
Daily Routine
The day starts at 6:00 a.m. We usually have two or three preaching opportunities each day. Sometimes we go together; sometimes we go two directions, each holding two or three meetings. With Mike's experience, we can separate for two or three days at a time, covering twice the territory and giving out worship supplies, good books, and song books in two different locations in two different vehicles. Sometimes it is evangelistic meetings and baptizing. Other times it's preacher workshops in different areas. We usually do the preacher workshops together. Another big part of our work is providing help on permanent church buildings. We donate 10,000R ($225) to any faithful church of Christ that comes up to the roof level on their building. Our travels include inspecting these buildings and asking questions to make sure they qualify for help. We now have just over 200 church buildings already approved waiting for our donation. Last year we helped 105. This year we have already helped 52 and we hope to help 52 more July 1, 2006 if we have the funds raised. Our days rarely end before 10:00 p.m. and, many times, the midnight hour.
Statistics of this trip
- I delivered 75 lessons.
- I saw 236 baptized.
- We helped to establish several new churches of Christ.
- We delivered worship supplies, song books, other good books, and Bibles to hundreds of churches and preachers.
- Saw good progress on having hundreds of churches in India with qualified elders and deacons in the next decade.
- Four day meeting in Mumbai (Bombay) with Craig Phillips on “Maturing the Church.” The ten lessons were well received. The India Culture Building was rented for our Sunday Service with many of the city churches gathering together for worship, prayer, Lord's Supper, and four of my ten lessons, two before lunch, ate a box lunch there, and then two more lessons. Craig Phillips has a wonderful work in Mumbai.
- Thirty graduated from the National Bible College in Chennai following the 24th Annual Tamil Nadu Lectures always held the second Sunday and Monday in February. Americans participating in this with us were Denny Petrillo, Pat McIntosh representing Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver, Gene Reneau, Mike Nieheus, and Les Henkel.

New Printing
- 10,000 Church Record Books now completed and we started delivering them to the churches and preachers this trip. Cost: $12,000.
- Translation of Roy Lanier Sr's boo, “The Church” into the Telugu language is near completion. Paper has been bought for 10,000 copies and the books will be given free to Telugu preachers. This book will be about 340 pages because of larger print. Distribution will begin in July 2006 when I make my next trip. This book will greatly help in maturing the churches in India. One of the benefits will be to speed up the process of having elders and deacons in hundreds of churches in India in the next decade.
There are now more churches of Christ in India than in the U.S. They are growing in number and in depth of maturity. Your donations to this ministry are helping to achieve this. God bless you. We need your help to continue all these projects and to make trips forty-two this summer. Please make checks payable to INDIA EVANGELISM or CHURCH OF CHRIST and send to either of the addresses on this letterhead or in the enclosed, self–addressed envelope.
Special thanks to the LaPoynor Church of Christ for overseeing our work. Also, special thanks to all the churches and individuals who support me as well a providing the $70,000.00 for our projects listed. My books “Rightly Dividing the Word of God,” Volumes I, II, III, IV, and V, are all available at $5.00 each; “God, Man, Money,” at $10.00 per copy, postage paid. All money from book sales go to India Evangelism.
The India Workshop will be April 20–22, 2006 at Marion Church of Christ, 2845 Highway 64 W., P.O. Box 209, Marion, AR 72364. Contact Michael Hughes 870-739-3784.
